Melissa has performed environmental consulting and project advisory services for private island and resort developments, national park proposals, healthcare providers, visionary prize development, infrastructure planning and development including but not limited to energy generation, road construction, and air transport sectors. - Environmental & Research Consulting. Waypoint prepares environmental impact assessments, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, land use plans, management plans, mitigation techniques, and research specific reports. Waypoint has thorough knowledge of Bahamian regulations and the environmental guidelines stipulated by the Bahamas Environment Technology and Science Commission (BEST).
- Environmental and Construction Monitoring: Waypoint provides environmental monitoring services for construction projects. Environmental monitoring includes on-site visits, monitoring checklists, EMP compliance training, and reporting.
- Project Management & Contract Administration. Waypoint recognizes that communication between stakeholders is integral to moving projects forward. We act as a liaison between various stakeholders to become a focal point of communication.
- Technical Writing Services. Waypoint offers technical writing services to assist with grant proposals, collaborative reports, and other technical based writing formats.
Experience:
Environmental Overview: Eastpoint, Curacao
Waypoint was subcontracted to review the development programme for Easpoint, Curacao. This entailed a review of an existing environmental assessment with regards to the delicate coastal environmental and protected marine areas and proposed master plan. Waypoint discussed the elements of an environmental management system in relation to the existing legislative framework to provide recommendations for future development works in order to achieve sustainable development. Recommendations focused on the management of wastes and a coastal management program.
Environmental Monitoring: Big Pond Landfill Remediation and Restoration Project, New Providence, The Bahamas
Melissa provided environmental monitoring services to the Contractor through Islands By Design Ltd. for remediation efforts at Big Pond, a former landfill and important urban mangrove ecosystem. Remediation of the former landfill served as the mitigation component for the New Providence Road Improvement Project. Mitigation included the demolition of two buildings, removal of contaminated soils, removal of surface waste, and the implementation of a boardwalk, trails, and basketball courts.
Phase I ESA: Winding Bay, Great Abaco Island, The Bahamas
Waypoint was subcontracted to facilitate the preparation of the Phase I ESA for the Winding Bay Club on Great Abaco Island. Waypoint provided desktop analysis and preparation of the Phase 1 ESA and liaised with the public works volatile inspector.
Environmental Overview: Master’s Harbour, Great Exuma
Waypoint prepared an environmental overview for a proposed development at Master’s Harbour, Great Exuma. The environmental overview was prepared in support of the developer’s application to the Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA). The overview highlighted the proposed development’s features with consideration for the existing natural environment and identified potential areas of concern to be discussed in greater detail with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Waypoint is preparing the EIA.
Environmental Impact Assessment: Matt Lowe Cay, Abaco, The Bahamas
Waypoint provided technical writing services and analysis of baseline biological data for the EIA regarding Matt Lowe Cay. The EIA included review of impacts to land based natural resources as well as marine, particularly regarding the proposed overwater bungalows.
